杏MAP导航 Leo XIV made this appeal in a message signed by Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to the 20th National Congress of CISL (Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions), which opened on Wednesday in Rome鈥檚 EUR district under the theme 鈥淭he Courage of Participation.鈥�

杏MAP导航 Leo XIV sent his 鈥渃ordial greeting鈥� to the organizers, speakers, and participants in the message addressed to CISL Secretary General Daniela Fumarola, expressing his 鈥渄eep appreciation for the event which marks a significant milestone鈥� in the union鈥檚 activity.
He expressed his hope that the 鈥渋mportant symposium will inspire a renewed commitment to raising awareness among all regarding social responsibilities.鈥�
The 杏MAP导航 urged the delegates 鈥渘ot to lose sight of the shared goal of contributing to that tranquillitas ordinis鈥濃�攖hat is, the 鈥渢ranquility of order,鈥� an expression coined by Saint Augustine in The City of God (De Civitate Dei).
Message from Italy's President Sergio Mattarella
A message was also sent to Secretary Fumarola by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
鈥淔reedom and democracy, in Italy and in Europe, need the participation of workers,鈥� wrote the Head of State, who emphasized the value of CISL鈥檚 decision to place 鈥淭he Courage of Participation鈥� at the center of its Congress, calling it a 鈥減ositive sign鈥� and 鈥渁 contribution to social and political dialogue.鈥�
In his message, President Mattarella recalled the historical role of the trade union in building the European social model, which, he noted, serves as 鈥渁 reference for the rights of all workers around the world.鈥�
The Italian President also reiterated that 鈥渢he effective right to work and to the remuneration necessary for a free and dignified existence鈥� is a driving force of progress and civilization.
