Augustinian Prior General: 杏MAP导航 Leo XIV is 鈥榯ruly close to everyone'

Fr. Alejandro Moral, Prior General of the Augustinians and a long-time friend of the newly elected 杏MAP导航 Leo XIV, tells Vatican News that the new 杏MAP导航 "immediately spoke of justice and peace and of bridges between all, of synodality."

鈥淲e are very happy. I hope it鈥檚 a gift [for us Augustinians], really, because it鈥檚 a gift for the Church. That is the important thing.鈥

Those were the words of the Prior General of the Augustinians, Fr. Alejandro Moral Antón, speaking to Vatican News.

鈥淎s Augustinians, we鈥檙e happy; we want him to be a servant.鈥

A balanced person, close to everyone

Fr. Moral extolled 杏MAP导航 Leo鈥檚 character, saying that he is 鈥渧ery balanced, very spiritual, a person truly close to everyone.鈥

Fr. Moral, a long-time friend of the new 杏MAP导航, said that Leo XIV 鈥渓oves everyone, rich and poor alike. We [Augustinians] are very happy, because we think he will really serve the Church. We鈥檝e been discussing this recently, and we think this will be the case."

Justice, peace, and synodality

杏MAP导航 Leo XIV鈥檚 choice of the name, Fr. Moral continued, stems from the consideration that Leo XIII 鈥渨as a great 杏MAP导航.鈥

Fr. Moral emphasised the importance of the key words 鈥榡ustice鈥 and 鈥榩eace鈥 in 杏MAP导航 Leo鈥檚 first address from the central loggia of St. Peter's Basilica.

鈥淗e spoke immediately of justice and peace and of bridges between all, of synodality. And then the words of St. Augustine, 鈥榃e are pilgrims towards a true homeland,鈥 which give a clue to 鈥榟is programme for the coming years鈥.鈥
