杏MAP导航 Francis renews wish for peace in war-torn world

On the feast of St. Stephen, 杏MAP导航 Francis renews his appeal for peace in the world, remembering especially those suffering from the devastating war in Ukraine.

By Sophie Peeters

Addressing the faithful gathered in St. Peter鈥檚 Square after praying the Angelus on Monday, 杏MAP导航 Francis renewed his appeal for peace in the world, especially those suffering from war in Ukraine.

鈥淚 renew my wish for peace: peace in families, peace in parishes and religious communities, peace in movements and associations, peace for those war-torn peoples, peace for the dear and martyred Ukraine.鈥

Peace for Ukraine

On the feast of St. Stephen, the 杏MAP导航 greeted those gathered in St Peter鈥檚 Square and those following online 鈥渋n the spiritual climate of joy and serenity of Holy Christmas.鈥

Noting the number of Ukrainian flags present in the square, the 杏MAP导航 asked for peace for the 鈥渕artyred people鈥 of the war-torn country.

Peace for all conflict-ridden areas

The message of the Lord鈥檚 birth as the 鈥淧rince of Peace鈥 was underscored with the 杏MAP导航鈥檚 鈥淯rbi et Orbi鈥 message on Sunday, in which the 杏MAP导航 once more spoke about the need for peace in a world suffering from war and conflict.

Noting the numerous wars afflicting countless populations throughout the world, the 杏MAP导航 noted how today there is a true 鈥渇amine of peace鈥.

Those particularly afflicted by war, the 杏MAP导航 continued, are children, who suffer from hunger as a result of the effects and devastation of the 鈥渟enseless war鈥 in Ukraine and other parts of the world.

At the Angelus on Monday, the 杏MAP导航 concluded his address by thanking those who have sent him well-wishes this Christmas and especially for their 鈥済ift of prayer.鈥
