杏MAP导航 encourages boy with disabilities on Camino de Santiago pilgrimage

杏MAP导航 Francis writes a letter to a young man with disabilities after he completes the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain, praising his courage during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Alvaro Calvente, a 15-year-old with a mental health condition from Malaga, Spain, completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage last week.

He was accompanied by a family friend and his father, who documented the journey of faith on Twitter ).

Alvaro鈥檚 bio says he has 鈥渃apabilities that you can鈥檛 even imagine.鈥 He also says his dream is 鈥渢o meet the 杏MAP导航.鈥

Pilgrimage of prayers

杏MAP导航 Francis went some way to making that dream a reality, with which was published on the Diocese of Malaga鈥檚 website.

鈥淒ear Alvaro,鈥 wrote the 杏MAP导航, 鈥淚 received a letter from your father in which he told me that you have finished the Camino de Santiago and that, in your backpack, you carried not only your intentions, but also those of the many people who 鈥榡oined you鈥 on the pilgrimage and asked you for prayers.鈥

The Holy Father admired the young man鈥檚 courage in undertaking the journey during the Covid-19 crisis.

鈥淭hank you for daring to walk and for inviting many others to walk with you,鈥 杏MAP导航 Francis wrote. 鈥淚n the midst of the pandemic we are forced to live with, you succeeded 鈥 with your sincerity, joy, and cheerfulness 鈥 to spark hope in the many people you met along the way or through social media.鈥

鈥榃e never walk alone鈥

杏MAP导航 Francis said Alvaro鈥檚 pilgrimage taught others 鈥渘ot to be afraid and to rediscover their joy, because we never walk alone.鈥

鈥淭he Lord,鈥 he added, 鈥渁lways walks beside us. Thank you for your witness and prayers.鈥

Finally, the Holy Father blessed Alvaro and asked Our Lady of Mount Carmel to watch over him.

鈥淕ive my greetings to your parents and brothers and sisters,鈥 concluded 杏MAP导航 Francis. 鈥淎nd please do not forget to pray for me.鈥

Active parish member

According to the Diocese of Malaga, Alvaro Calvente is the seventh of ten children, and belongs to the Neocatechumenal Way of St. Patrick鈥檚 Parish.

鈥淗is intellectual disability is not an impediment to participating actively in parish life, and his joyful experience of faith is a witness to all who know him,鈥 wrote the Diocese.
