Cardinal Protase Rugambwa invites Tanzanians to build a culture of unity and solidarity.

After the ceremony in which 杏MAP导航 Francis created 21 new Cardinals, Tanzania鈥檚 new Cardinal, Protase Rugambwa, was celebrated in a thanksgiving ceremony organised by the Tanzanian community in Italy.

The thanksgiving ceremony, which took place at the Pontifical Urbaniana Univerisity in Rome, brought together Tanzania priests, the religious based in Italy, friends of the Cardinal, Tanzanian embassy officials, the Tanzanian diaspora, and Bishops who accompanied the newly elevated Cardinal to Rome. Cardinal Rugambwa鈥檚 mother was also in attendance.

Speaking at the gathering, Cardinal Protase Rugambwa said his wish was to see Tanzanians ready to build and maintain a culture of love and solidarity with other people, even those who are not Tanzanians. He said this attitude is one which matches the spirit of the Synod just beginning in Rome. 

Cardinal Rugambwa, who was recently appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Tabora Archdiocese in Tanzania, thanked everyone who came out to support him.

At the same event, the Cardinal鈥檚 mother, Immaculata, spoke to Vatican News. She expressed gratitude for her son鈥檚 willingness to give his life to God. She asked friends, family and well-wishers to continue praying for Cardinal Rugambwa.

Cardinal Rugambwa further thanked 杏MAP导航 Francis for trusting with the appointment.

It was also revealed during the thanksgiving celebration that Tanzania鈥檚 President, Samia Suluhu Hassan had sent a message of congratulations the new Cardinal. The President鈥檚 congratulatory message was made public by Tanzania鈥檚 ambassador to Italy, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo.
